Matsu

Matsu is a pembroke x cardigan corgi mix that loves nothing more than hiking, doing agility, and eating raw food. He started eating raw the moment he came home at 8 weeks and hasn’t looked back since. Matsu loves all textures, flavors, and proteins and is always happy to try something new. Matsu is who has inspired me the most with pursuing raw feeding education – without him, who knows where I’d be.

Tangy

Tangy is an orange tabby with mild cerebellar hypoplasia which makes him a little uncoordinated and clumsy. His favorite thing is definitely eating, whether that’s whole prey, chunks of raw, raw grinds, or even canned food if he had the chance. He enjoys doing zoomies with his dog and ferret brothers… even if he gets knocked over most of the time.

Choji

Choji is a dark sable ferret with a big personality and an even bigger appetite! He’s a cuddly lover boy that’s obsessed with licking your nose if you put your face close enough. He loves to get himself into trouble, but it’s hard to get mad when he tilts his head like a confused puppy. When it comes to raw, his favorite thing in the world is whole prey – especially mice!

The Human

My name is Mariah Pierson, and I simply want to provide the best life for not only my pets, but pets all over the world as well. Animals became a passion of mine at a very young age, and I was especially passionate about wildlife and exotic pets. In 2016 one of my ferrets, Firo passed away at 4 from issues a ferret that young shouldn’t have been dealing with. Something in me changed and made me want to do everything right to keep my pets thriving. I started learning about a species appropriate raw diet for ferrets and never looked back. A few years later I got my first personal dog, Matsu, and not even a year later, my cat, Tangy – both which transitioned to raw days after coming home as babies.

My work has also always revolved around animals. When I was 10 I volunteered at an exotic pet store, and my first real job was at a pet daycare and boarding facility. A few years ago I entered the veterinary industry and have since worked in all areas of the hospital. I wanted to learn more about the medical side of it all, as well as get a better understanding of why some veterinarians are so against raw and promote processed diets. This certainly gave me a world of insight.

With both years of researching canine, feline, mustelid, and erinaceidae nutrition, as well as working in the veterinary field, I decided I wanted to start sharing my knowledge with other owners who shared the same passion as I do. In 2020 my partner and I started our youtube channel formerly called The Primal Pack – now Paws of Prey. In 2021 I received my certification in canine nutrition (CRT. CT) and plan to continue pursuing animal nutrition education from here on.
